Aion Classes Overview 1.2
Everything here is based on Korean 1.2 Aion.
Templars
- The best end game PvP class – has no real issues dealing with any other class except other Templars. (AionChosun tournament made that pretty obvious)
- 3 instant cast defensive cooldowns (1min 30s of invincibility if you pop them all in a row) + 4k DP instant full health will keep you alive in any situation
- Currently #1 on future nerf list
Gladiators
- [Ankle Snare- Immobilizes a target within a 25m radius for 10 sec and decreases its Dodge by 1000.] is your signature skill. It is the only root-type skill in Aion that cannot be removed by potions.
- No shield, No stealth – something to keep in mind. you aren’t exactly the tank or the top dps. you’re also a MELEE
Assassins
- [Frenzy I -increase movement by 20%] is a toggle.
- Infinite stealth – Stealth cooldown starts ticking as soon as you enter stealth, not AFTER you exit stealth
- 1Burst – You can kill almost any class with 1 swift chain of skills. (or leave them near death) If they don’t die, just run away with your speed-stealth again-go for it one more time or just escape. But remember- your fragile. Don’t go around headbutting things.
- widely recognized as the fastest leveler. (Korea’s first max level in each update was an assassin every time)
- The most popular class in Aion. Expect your gear to be expensive.
Rangers
- Kiting is your friend – maintain 25m with your target at all times. a lot of the skills that other classes have to cc/slow you down have 20m range.
- Notorious as the most annoying class to run into in field PvP. A good ranger never lets his target get within range.
- widely recognized as the slowest leveler
Sorcerers
- probably the worst class to be at 1.2 – magic resist sets will leave you pulling your hair out. Assassins can kill u before you can say ‘help’ over vent and trust me, there’s a LOT of assassins in Aion.
- all of your roots and ccs can be cured with a pot
- at beginning zones, you’re a kill stealing machine
- highest mortality rate
Spiritmasters
- utility class – You are most definitely not on the top of PvP chain, but you’re just such a useful tool to have in group PvP. being able to remove buffs is HUGE
- strip them naked – debuff everything! high grade scrolls cost money while your mana doesn’t. Remove templars’ armor cooldowns and watch them cry as they can no longer tank 10 people at once.
- Your [Wing Root] strikes terror into your enemies’ hearts in aerial combat.
- great class to solo with. because having a pet to level with is awesome
Clerics
- You’ll find yourself next to sorcerers pulling your hair out. Magic resistance sets make your attacks useless, but using them also makes you strong against other sorcerers/clerics/SMs and even assassins (some of their skills count as spells and can be resisted)
- Not as strong as we saw them as in 1.0 or 1.1
- Scarce – you’ll find yourself getting spammed with whispers and friend requests
Chanters
- a big difference between clerics/chanters = chanters are melee. clerics are casters
- buffs are nice now – speed buffs provide a nice edge over everyone else
- preferred over clerics in end game PvE as Cleric’s high heals become redundant when everyone is super geared.
- Scarce – you’ll find yourself getting spammed with whispers and friend requests
After reading this I think Ill go for Chanter instead of a Cleric. I wont do it cause clerics are weak or something, I know that a single patch can alter the class balance of an MMO. I just wanted to play a buffer/secondary healer.
Aren’t Chanters melee? Or do they have ranged abilities too?

Well that sucks.
So, Sorcerers are glass without the cannons?
Is it a 1vs1 thing, Or are resist sets also a problem in mass/Group PvP(In other words do people just wear resist gear 24/7)?
Also, Any information of this being worked on 1.3?

How are the Chanter buffs better?
Thanks,

@Nex
Magic resistance set is by no means cheap to achieve. You have to go over 1700 mr to actually start being resist monster. So you won’t be running into MR around every corner or anything. Only classes that wear MR set are assassins/clerics. And only the clerics would probably consider wearing it all the time. When you’re going for MR, you’re giving up ton of other things like attack power, crit rate blah blah.
I’m sure you can find some targets that aren’t wearing MR sets in mass pvp =]
And I haven’t read anything about any class changes for 1.3.
@Iron Tiger
the buffs actually give % increases rather than set numbers. so the benefits are a lot bigger than it was in 1.0 and 1.1
extra movement is always good in every occasion. especially in PvP.

@elliot
can you give us some information about “fotm” – group pvp setups right now.
And just for my own clarification are these class round-up`s based on 1on1 / Grp vs Grp or Zerg vs Zerg? :)

This is excellent, any chance you could make a post that expands on this overview of classes? It’s really an invaluable resource to learn about how they are in Korea.
Thanks again!

@spdy
That would be 100% templar.
@believe
I just wanted to give people a general idea :P don’t really want to get into specifics right now.

Cool, thx to share Elliot
You should translate this article about new stigma in 1.3 : http://power.plaync.co.kr/aion/%EC%83%88%EB%A1%9C%EC%9A%B4+%EC%A0%84%EB%9E%B5%EC%9D%98+%ED%83%84%EC%83%9D,+%EC%83%81%EA%B8%89+%EC%8A%A4%ED%8B%B0%EA%B7%B8%EB%A7%88 cause it may change all the overview status of class…

is there a consensus in korea as to which classes have the highest skill cap? aka benefit the most from skillful play?

@Pew
done. just wait for AionHun to post it =]
@other guy
Ranger and chanter
that 170k AP per day guy is a perfect example of a skilled ranger where general ranger population is failing
this one chanter in aionchosun whacked all 3 other contestants including a templar. definitely showed lot of potential for the class

Very cool, thanks for the information.
I had a few questions clarifying the difference between Cleric and Chanter.
The buffs are now better, awesome to see. They’re good enough now that Chanters are good in PvP parties as well?
Are Chanters able to main heal or do parties still try and run with 1 Cleric and 1 Chanter?

Hey Elliot
I would like your opinion what class would be nice to play with a cleric.
My friend and I always play together, he loves to heal, I’m usually a caster, but would play other dps as well.
What class combination would work best together in that context in term of ganking-resistance and group pvp?
If the best class to play with the cleric would suck solo, that wouldn’t be a matter.
Also, since I am gravitating towards a caster, especially a spiritmaster, I would like to know how they hold up against, say, assasins when they have a cleric to back them up. Would I, for example, die, before the cleric can react, or would that not be likely?
Hoping you will share your experience with me :)

Well Smash is indeed asking a really good question. I’m usually either main heal / support heal in pretty much every game I played/play. And I was wondering which one to choose on Aioin.
Read much about the chanter, and not that much positive thing. Though it seems to be funnier than cleric to play (or at least a bit more nervous). What do you think ? if you have to choose for a classic pvp / pve group, would you go for a chanter or a cleric ?
Thanks !

I this this point o view is wrong…. u are just saying about pvp… and the game is not just that… Sorc it is the class who have the less def… but always party must have a Sorc…so do resume the game into a pvp mode…U cant say thinks like that..cuz u can pass a wrong image for peoples are interesting in this game…
Resist set.. Sux? for shure, but it not that bad… and not every one will use that… so THINK before post things like that…

@Smash
mainheal enough for very geared PvE party but not for PvP
@Chocoholic
That would be double templar. no seriously
I’m sure the cleric should be able to keep you alive against 1 assassin as long as he’s alert. Although anything more than 1 you’ll die pretty fast.
@Believe
seems like it depends on the server really : P
@Hellen
All in for Cleric if you want to heal
@Bruno
Aion is a PvP (RvR) game. Anyone who tells you otherwise don’t know what they’re talking about.
Resist set means you can’t do ANYTHING against the guy if you’re a caster (over 1700) – this was confirmed by player tests and famous PvPer. testimonies o.O
I’m sure NCsoft will fix their numbers soon, but like I said. this is 1.2 overview.

Wouldn’t a magic accuracy set counter a resist set? If not could you explain the mechanics.

June 25, 2009 at 4:51 am
elliot, does that mean that spiritmasters will be unable to debuff anyone wearing a magic resist set?
Also, are all raid bosses just random bosses scattered across the world? Do they drop worthwhile things?
Thanks for the article, apprecaite it by the way.

A magic accuracy set would solve the problem of magic resist sets, however you are sacrificing probably more than half (or more!) of your HP, just to be able to hit people. Sorcerer’s need to have their gear filled with HP stones to be able to take any hits at all. Anyone who is ready to pvp will have a magic resist set, since it cuts the damage they take in group pvp by an untold amount.
At the moment the scene is very bleak for Sorcerers/Clerics. Sorcerer’s have no survivability, but their damage is also limited, especially against mdef sets. They are there for crowd control, but since all of their crowd control can be cleared with pots….well…
And to think, people are screaming for them to be nerfed. Lol. I think assassins need to be rebalanced before templars.
